[Map] Pilgrim-class Voidjammer

This map is one of my #mapvember maps and a test with the grids and using solid black with spaceships and similar structures. Inspiration for this map came from a space opera RPG, Hyperstorm, me and my colleague, Hans Zenjuga, are developing together.

Voidjammers are interstellar spaceships with sensors and hyperdrive systems modified to handle the eccentric hyperspace conditions in the Rift and the Lost Expanse. Because of their specialized nature they are typically used by rifters, but by others as well. For instance pirates, nomads and metacorporation maintain fleets of voidjammers.

All voidjammers are unique, because  there are no mass-produced voidjammers at the moment. Even the metacorporations customize their ships from mass-produced models to traverse the Rift. There are ship docks that are specialized in refitting ships to voidjammers all around the Edge and the  Wild Space and overtime a few assembly types have become more or less of a standard.

Pilgrim-class Ship Configuration

Ships outfitted and customized for extended journeys into unexplored or uninhabited space are called usually Pilgrim-class ships. The name comes from actual noachian and masadsufian pilgrims who refitted decommissioned exploratory crafts to seek out alien structures widely known as Enigmas. The pilgrims considered these Enigmas sacred and as gifts from God. Later, all long-range spaceships came to be called as “pilgrim ships”.

Typical equipment and systems for Pilgrim-class ships include:

  • Cryostasis units
  • AMC (Automated Medical Capsule; Industrial or military grade)
  • Long-range sensors
  • UTB (Ultra Tight-Beam) communications system
  • Repairs drone bay
  • Nanofabricator (M-grade or better)
  • Biohazard containment pod
  • NA3 (Non-aware Level III) artificial intelligence
