The Azure Bastion was once an important coastal fortress keeping an eye on a narrow passage on a peninsula leading to the prosperous harbor city of King’s Bay. But the great Spellquake changed everything.
Landmasses shook and churned in ways never seen before. Islands, even whole continents, sunk in the oceans overnight. Mountains were torn from the ground and floated high up to the clouds. Spellquake laid waste to King’s Bay as well collapsing most of its buildings and driving people away from their shattered homes.
Now the great city is lies in waste. Abandoned and pillaged by savage goblinoids and lizardmen. Pirates and smugglers are the only ones who dare to tread these waters. Finding shelter in the ruins and caves of the archipelagos and swamps that are the only thing that remains of the great peninsula.

The Hangman’s Bailey is an encounter map with a single bailey with a hanging platform and it is designed to be a part of a larger castle structure.
When I started working on this I thought that a map depicted straight from top would look a bit boring, so I decided to try this approach instead. For this map I also had to study a bit how are the medieval castles actually built and structured. To be honest I had never really thought about it before. Of course I had seen pictures of castles and even visited a few, but I did not understand why they were built like they are. Anyway, this map was good practice overall.
Here’s a map me and my friend are working on for Astraterra RPG. Because Astraterra is a roleplaying game for all ages, significant amount of the players are school kids and therefore we wanted to have some kind of light educative aspect in this map and adventure.
